The Philippine Eagle
The Philippine Eagle is the largest Eagle in the world. It is endemic to the Philippines and almost extinct due to the destruction of its natural habitat, and poachers. The Philippine Eagle is about 3 ft tall and has a wingspan of 184 to 220 cm, that’s over 7 ft! The eagle’s eyes are blue-gray.
It has distinct features such as a dark face and a creamy-brown nape and crown. The back of the Philippine Eagle is brown, while the underside and underwings are white. The heavy legs are yellow, with large, powerful, dark claws, and the prominent, large, high arched, deep beak is a bluish gray. It is a very ‘Pogi’ looking bird!
The Philippine Eagle is one of the rarest birds in the world, with an estimated dwindling population of approximately 400 in the world.
The Philippine Eagle is the national bird of the Philippines since 1995 and was made the official mascot for the Southeast Asian Games competition in 2005 by the Philippine government.
A couple of fun interesting facts about the Philippine eagle are that it can live up to 60 years of age, and the female is usually bigger. The Philippine eagle can eat and prey on monkeys, however, it usually eats lemurs, as well as squirrels and bats. It has a distinguished noise, and it has clearer eyesight than humans.
